Bua
For the last ten years artist Justin Bua has been
making a mark with his urban flavored paintings.
His combination of graffiti-esque style, distorted
realism and urban themes has made his paintings
some of the most popular art among young people
today. Justin Bua was born in 1968 and grew up in
New York City. He was a true latch key kid, spending
most of his time in the streets. He grew up next
to a welfare hotel, which was a home for drug addicts,
the mentally ill and many other interesting characters
that would later appear in his paintings.

A.J.Casson
A. J. Casson was a late comer to the Group of Seven,
and although he shared some similar subjects of
the Group, he maintained his own interests and primarily
painted rural scenes of Southern Ontario. Alfred
Joseph Casson was born in Toronto on May 17, 1898,
and for more than eight decades his life was centred
in Southern Ontario. In 1926 the Group of Seven
consisted of only six, because of the withdrawal
of Frank Johnston, and the group turned to Casson
in order to re-authenticate its name. Casson differed
from the rest of the group, not only through his
late enrolment, but also in the fact that he continued
to work as a commercial artist until the age of
sixty, when he retired as Vice President and Art
Director of Samson-Mathews in Toronto. Casson's
subjects also differ somewhat from those of the
rest of the group, for he has never shown much interest
in the North Woods landscape of which the others
were so fond. His favourite subjects have consistently
been rural scenes of Southern Ontario.

Danby
Ken Danby is one of the few contemporary

Steve
Hanks
Steve Hanks, whose paintings sensitively
portray women and children, spent his childhood
on the coast of California. His inspiration to paint
developed in his late teens, after his family moved
from Ventura County to New Mexico. In the 1960s,
Hanks returned to the West Coast, enrolling at the
University of California at Berkeley. Later, he
attended the Academy of Art in San Francisco and
graduated from the California College of Arts and
Crafts in Oakland. In June, 1998 he was the featured
artist at the prestigious Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa
with a display of more than 40 originals. He was
Artist of the Year at the 1999 Pacific Rim Art Exposition,
leading the show’s transition from wildlife
to a more inclusive range of art.

Machado
Juarez Machado was born in 1941 in the city of Joinville,
in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. He studied
at the School of Art in the state of Paranâ,
in the city of Curitiba. In 1966 he took up residence
in Rio de Janeiro, intensifying his activities.
In addition to painting he also dabbled in illustrating,
scenography, sculpture, drawing and engraving. He
has received a number of awards in Brazilian galleries
and other international prizes. Machado has been
living in Paris since 1986 and has frequently exhibited
his works in Europe and the USA.
